Fruits and vegetables are very important for older people
Protein should be an important part of your diet, but you have to be careful not to over-do the protein intake when you get older. It can raise acid production in your body, which will lead to increased calcium excretion, and that will weaken your bones. But there’s more you can do.
In this study, the people who ate fruits and vegetables (for alkali) on a daily bases saw less calcium loss from their bones, resulting in stronger bones and reducing the bone fracture risk in older men and women. The doctor who conducted the study said Calcium and Vitamin D are very important factors in bone strength.
This is just another reason for, not just older people, but everybody to eat a healthy amount of fruits and vegetables every day! You can even replace one of your meals with an array of good stuff like carrots, celery, pineapple, oranges, apples and strawberries. Switch it up every few days until you find your delicious healthy combination. Your bones will thank you.
